How to spot a phishing email

Last updated on Oct 02, 2026

Phishing emails pretend to be someone you trust so you will click a link, open a file, or pay money.

Warning signs

  • It pushes you to act fast: an unpaid invoice, a locked account, a parcel on hold.
  • The sender address does not match the company it claims to be from.
  • A link shows a different web address when you hover over it.
  • A supplier asks you to pay to new bank details.
  • It asks you to sign in to view a document you were not expecting.

What to do

  • Do not click, reply or forward it on to colleagues.
  • If it claims to be a supplier or client, phone them on a number you already have, not one in the email.
  • Send us a screenshot or forward it to support@hostme.ie and we will check it.

If you already clicked or entered a password

Tell us straight away. The sooner we change the password and check the account, the less damage is done. You will not be in trouble for it.
